Good News Church Military Chaplains
The ministry of Military Chaplains provides pastors a unique opportunity to share the good news of Christ. It is a high calling which requires commitment, courage, and compassion. The ministry of Military Chaplains is similar to that of a civilian pastor. They are seminary educated and ordained ministers who preach sermons, administer the sacraments, provide comfort, teach Bible studies, provide counseling, conduct weddings and funerals, and lead people to Christ. The Military Chaplain is ecclesiastically endorsed by his denomination and meets high standards for service within the Presbyterian and Reformed Commission on Chaplains and Military Personnel (PRCC). They are fully integrated into their units and serve side by side with the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines They are present at times when service personnel are hurting and most receptive to the Gospel message. They are there to honor the fallen, spiritually nurture the living, and care for the wounded.
PRCC Chaplain Ministries encourages congregations to sponsor a specific Chaplain and his family. It is our goal to connect every Chaplain with a PRCC Congregation who is willing to sponsor them, especially those separated geographically from his home congregation or presbytery due to deployment. The congregation agrees to pray (including pastoral prayers) on a regular basis and encourage the Chaplain and his family through cards, letters, and perhaps occasional care packages to the Chaplain and family to extend support and appreciation for their service. In turn, the Chaplain agrees to keep the congregation informed and updated with prayer requests.
